What can I ask for a quote on?
Rooftop solar panels, rooftop solar with a battery, or a home battery on its own, anywhere in the UK.
Who gives the quote?
An installer who covers your area. We'll tell you their name first, and your details only go to them if you say yes.
Does it cost anything?
No. Asking us is free and there's no obligation.
Do I need to know my roof's direction?
No. Pick "Not sure" and the installer can check it on their survey.
Do I need planning permission for rooftop solar?
Often not for a house, but it depends on where you live and on your building, for example in a conservation area or on a listed building. The installer will check this with you.
Kits
How does a plug-in kit save money?
It sends up to 800W (799VA) into your home while the sun's on it. Your home uses that power first, so you buy less from the grid.
What do I need before I buy?
A sunny, level spot, a weatherproof outdoor socket within 4m, and modern RCD protection in your fuse box. An electrician can fit or check those if you need them. If you rent or own leasehold, get written permission first, and tell your home insurer.
Do I have to register my kit?
Yes. Register it free at myplugin.solar before you first switch it on. Your network operator is told from there. We'll go through it with you on your set-up call.
Can I have two kits?
No. The rules allow one plug-in kit per household.
Can I add a battery to a plug-in kit?
No. A plug-in kit must not be used with a home battery. If you'd like a battery, ask for a quote instead.
Do you deliver to Northern Ireland?
No. Plug-in kits can be used in England, Scotland and Wales only, so we can't deliver kits to Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man or the Channel Islands. Quote requests are welcome from anywhere in the UK.
What happens in a power cut?
The kit switches itself off when the grid goes down, so it won't power your home in a power cut.
Paying
How will I pay for a kit?
By card, on our secure checkout, once kits go on sale. We never see your card details.
When will prices be set?
When kits go on sale. Join the list on any kit page and we'll email you the prices first.
How do I pay for rooftop solar or a battery?
You agree the price and how you pay directly with the installer you choose. We never take payment for an installation.
Can I cancel a kit order?
Yes. Cancel any time before dispatch for a full refund, or within 14 days of delivery.
